An Unexpected Sunday

I got a little miffed at Li last night. I was all annoyed as he has become borderline obsessed with the BLOODY COMPUTER GAME, and it is pissing me off slightly. I asked him to start to make a bit more of an effort to put JiXiang and I before the stupid game.
What is it with men and computer games????
My students are the same way and I totally do NOT understand!
Anyway…
So today I asked him what we are going to do together as a family OUTSIDE of the house. He mentioned going to the park (Rengeji Park) and walking around. Fine with me. This also meant that I could detour slightly to this baby store that I saw advertised in this monthly flyer/paper that comes in the mail.
Turned into a very unexpected day.
We loaded ourselves up around 12 (we had had an early lunch) and set out on our bikes towards the park.
We stopped in at this recycle shop on the way: nothing there.
Then, TOTALLY unexpected, there was a group a people and we stumbled across this little neighborhood Jinja (shrine) Festival. Amazing! I took tons of pictures.
The festival had something to do with the Tenki God (Heaven god) and maidens. I took some lovely pictures and will add a link in a sec.
Turns out we ran into the last 10 minutes of it. Totally lucky (Totally seems to be my word of choice today)
Then we got on our bikes and headed for the park again. Li always lets me go in front for two reasons: One, he is lazy ass slow, and two, he hates making ANY decisions as to directions. Well I just about keeled off my bike and caused him to almost crash when I saw a SAMURAI out of the corner of my eye.
In this little house right beside us a little Baby Samurai stepped out in full costume. I quickly asked his grandma if we could take a picture and Li quickly shot one. Talk about timing!!!

Then we were off again.
I decided that we should head to the kids store first. WHAT A STORE! WHAT A FIND! It is all recycled stuff but in mint condition AND they will happily buy stuff off of you if it is still good.
They had amazing clothes for only 3bucks and up and tons of toys, highchairs, Hell, EVERYTHING! I got JiXiang these mint jean overalls for only 3bucks and picked up a collapsible backpack carrier thingy. The kind that straps easily to your shoulders and the baby sits in and can see the world. Well the metal based ones are FAR more comfortable and balanced MUCH better. Well this one is totally foldable and storable and can fit under the seat of a car. You have no idea how happy this makes me. It is also put onable (is that a word?)BY YOURSELF. This is a HUGE plus.

Then we were off again with me beaming away.
This time we actually went to the park and went for a stroll. We stopped under the flowerless wisteria trellises for Li to lie on the picnic table and be a typical man; he napped, and I fed JiXiang. JiXiang and I then went and checked out the lily pads, fishes and the cute dog that was walking by.
THEN
Just as we arrived back at our bikes, after completing the circle around the park, along came the baby Samurai with some MORE baby Samurai’s and a whole group of Jinja dudes for their Festival parade.
Talk about timing!

Other than the little miffed session this evening when JiXiang got tired and Li was assuming that I could handle everything by myself, this has turned into a very unexpected day.

Here are the pictures:

P.S. - I am having a problem with the cookies setting on my computer. It has been set to off and I can not upload pictures to my blog because if it. I cant figure out how to set it one. I have been going through all the help manuals and doing everything they say but it is still set off. If anyone has any ideas I would be happy to hear. I use Netscape by the way.
