Lost and found

My mother has got one seriously bad habit.
I never noticed until we went to the bank machine to pull money off her credit card.

She sticks money in her pockets.

My eyes popped out of my head and I calmly handed her one of the envelopes for money that are always available at the machines and told her to use it. In that brief few minutes she thought she had lost a hundred dollar bill.
(sigh)
Yesterday at work I got a phone call. This is a very rare occurrence. I can count on one hand the number of external phone calls I have received.
Mr. T answered the phone and called me over.
- Do you know a Ms. ? (can not remember)
- No?
I took the phone and the lady asked me if I was Andrea L Meister.
- Yes?
She then asked if I spoke Japanese.
- No?
I handed the phone to Mr. T, who is one of my highest-level students. He told her that my Japanese sucks and that he would translate everything for me. She said she couldn’t do that as this was a private phone call but would have an English speaker call back.
She never did and I had that freaked out feeling in the pit of my stomach for the rest of the day. I have no idea where she was calling from and all the worst scenarios were running through my head.

When I got home from work there were two messages on my machine. I don’t know if the early work phone call is related to these messages but I am no longer worrying about it, so I am assuming so.

- Honey, it your mom. I lost my visa and I need you to cancel it for me. For some reason I cant cancel it from here. The number is #######.

My jaw hit the table as I scrambled for a pen trying to remember the damn number. I still have not figured out how to do play back on my machine yet.
The next message was:

- Disregard the last message, Andrea. No problem. I am having a great time here in Shanghai. Li is being absolutely wonderful and his parents are great. I bought a ???? (didn’t catch it) for JiXiang but it will probably be too small for her soon. Hahaha. Love ya. Talk later.

I am staring at the phone going ‘WHAT THE HELL!!!!’
I called Li’s parents house and his dad answered. Li was not there. I tried again around 8ish and no one was home. Li called at 10.
- What the hell is going on?
- No worry. Your mother thought she lost her visa credit card but she found it in one of her pants. No problem.
AUGH!!!
I hope she has learned her lesson.
Wallets do have their uses.
