Jolly Ji

The last few days JiXiang and I have been clashing when it is time for vegetable feeding time.
She puckers her lips together and starts complaining loudly. She might eat a spoonful or two but I haven’t been able to get her to eat more than that.
I have been racking my brain as to why – does she hate veggies, are her teeth hurting, is she just being a bitch.
Well once and a while I order this ‘Parenting’ magazine from the Foreign Buyers Club. Last months issue didn’t have anything worth while for me in it, but this month is being kept on my bookshelf. Tons of stuff all in the area where I have been asking myself questions; talking, playing and eating solid foods.
There was an interview with this one mother talking about how her first two kids were stars when it came to eating but her third kid was one big headache. Then she realized that the baby just wanted to feed herself and wanted nothing to do with mom and the spoon. So mom backed off and the kid learned how to feed herself way ahead of her siblings.
I am reading this and thinking
-DAMN! That could be my problem?
JiXiang is already a VERY independent kid. She no longer allows the daycare ladies to hold her milk bottle for her; she can do it just fine and dandy, thank you. She yells if I try to brush her teeth, she can do it herself thank you. She grabs the juice cup out of your hands because she knows how to hold it by herself.
Thinking about this I realized how this could be why JiXiang was refusing to eat.
So last night I heated up her veggies, a little pile of mixed veggies and a little pile of spinach, set it in a wide plastic bowl and sat down. I demonstrated how to pick the food up with her fingers and put it in her mouth. It took a few minutes but she got the hang of it. Also created a major mess. Thankfully the mess stayed on her highchair tray and all over her face.
No a single cry from her and she was looking for more. Mind you most was on her face but overall I think it was a minor success.
I of course got Li to video some of it because she looked like a mini Jolly Green Giant.
Jolly Ji
Try again tonight with Grandma watching and we will see how that goes.
