Thursday, June 30, 2005 THIRD!! The sukebe old man officially went toooooo far yesterday. As a quick fill in for those just joining us, the sukebe old man is my bicycle garage man who is totally in love with me. He tends to give me the creeps a bit. He is always giving me food in the form of Jell-O desserts and what not. I dont like any of these things and tend to hand them out to my work people. Recently he started giving me vegetables. I am able to say no to most things but he doesn't always comply. Well I got home from work yesterday to a large bag of cucumbers, potatoes and onions hanging on my door. My first thought was that it was the old man and I was not happy about it. He has found my home. Li was shocked and not thrilled either. -Why couldn't he give it to you at the garage?!?!?! Why does he have our address? -Because I had to fill in the usually info page when I organized for my bike to stay there. So I grabbed a dictionary and did some quick Japanese vocabulary study to prepare myself for this mornings conversation. I dropped JiXiang off and headed to the garage. I was not going to hide the fact that I was pretty damned annoyed with him. He had officially crossed the line between a slightly sukebe but basically nice old man, to a totally freaky stalker. Hell!!! I dont even know this mans name!!! The following conversation takes place all in Japanese. A fact which I am very proud of. -Did you get the bag of vegetables I left you? =Yes. Why did you come to my house? -I used a map. =I didnt ask how, I asked Why? Why my house? -I used a map. =My husband did not like that. -HUH? Now the old man is almost deaf and he started to lean in close. I was talking very loudly to him. I realized today that it is not so much that he is deaf but mostly that he refuses to listen. =My husband was angry. -Uh. =Dame (loosely translated to- you did a bad action, stop, dont do it again. It is usually accompanied with a hand crossing motion when a woman is talking to a man) He understood this. He skirried over and grabbed my bike for me then tried to give me another disgusting Jell-O dessert that I was able to refuse. My face said I was annoyed and his face told me that I am pretty sure he understood. We will find out on Monday morning.
