Two bombs removed from Nagoya

NAGOYA (Kyodo) A bomb-disposal squad from the Ground Self-Defense Force defused and removed two wartime bombs Sunday from a residential area in Nagoya where they were found buried last month, police said.
The bombs -- weighing 250 kg and measuring 120 cm in length and 36 cm in diameter -- are believed to have been dropped by a U.S. warplane during World War II. They were found May 13 at a road construction site about 2 km from JR Nagoya Station.

Some 20 residents in the neighborhood were evacuated during the bomb-disposal work, which lasted more than three hours, according to police.
