Monday, May 16, 2005 I think that I may have an old man problem. My little old bicycle man has decided that I am the greatest thing on earth. I am not disputing this fact but it is a little unnerving. Last week he said I was beautiful every day. He even went so far as to say -Hontoni kareii (Not lying. Pretty!) Not that I disagree or anything, it is just odd to hear it from total strangers. On Friday he gave me some candy that was so sweet it was like drinking a couple of extra strong coffees, there was sooooo much sugar in them. On Monday he put a seat cover on my bike. And today he TOOK MY PICTURE! - I like Andrea. Greaaatttt...... I told Li about him and he was laughing pretty hard. - A sukebe old man!!! HAHAHAHAHA! Ahh sukebe. It is one of those truly wonderful Japanese words. It has sooo many meanings all rolled into one. It is very useful and is used so often by foreigners we dont even realize we are speaking it. We use it as if it was an English word. Sukebe is basically, perverted, love sick, over sexed, under sexed, good dirty, bad dirty and lust all rolled into one. The difference in meaning has to do with the sentence context or voice change. It can be very funny or rude. I am always telling Li - Go away you sukebe little man. This makes him giggle all the more and be more cuddly. Maybe I should introduce my sukebe old man to my Chinese-Mafia looking husband. (People are always telling him that he is.)
