One of the first things I noticed when I first met Li was that Chinese people count differently. With their fingers I mean.

I don’t know about you but I count using both hands and my toes are sometimes required. To indicate ten to someone without speaking I hold up both hands. Well not Chinese people. They are able to count to ten using only one hand.

I have never taken the time to learn their counting method as Li can speak English, but with his mom in the house understanding this has been important.

To learn I asked Li to demonstrate and I took pictures of his hands.

Here we go…

Now number one and two are done the same as us BUT

This is THREE

Number four and number five are the same as us but
this is number SIX

The number SEVEN

Then number EIGHT

Now number NINE

And last is number TEN

Now you all have something to study and watch for the next time you visit China Town.
Have fun!
