Tuesday, March 15, 2005 I just read the CBCs exerts of China and Taiwan: anti-secession law http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/china/antisecession_law.html And I found it kind of interesting that the law actually says foreign nationals in it --the state shall exert its utmost to protect the lives, property and other legitimate rights and interests of Taiwan civilians and foreign nationals in Taiwan, and to minimize losses.- Japan only ever says the word citizen when they write laws and are under constant discussion as to who a citizen really is. Some people say anyone who pays taxes. This would include all foreigners who also pay taxes. Others say that a citizen is only a Japanese national and have trouble accepting the idea of a person who has permanent residence status as a citizen. Hmmmm.... It is little quirks like this that make me wonder which country in this world is really more advanced.
