Two blogs below Emily wrote some scary statistics in my comments concerning the sex trade industry in her part of Asia. All toooooooo scary.

What is even more scary is the WHO saying that both China and Japan are ticking time bombs when it comes to AIDS.
Japan is the only industrialized country in the world where the recorded numbers, and I might add government published numbers, have gone UP! I truly believe that the actual numbers are MUCH higher.
Here in Japan too many people are tooo afraid to get tested. The push for free AIDS testing and AIDS information is done by non-profit groups and not the government.
It is still, even here in an educated country, considered a foreigners disease that can not affect Japanese people. There are tooooo many doctors that continue to treat the symptoms of the disease but never do the AIDS check so that they treat the true problem. There are people out there being treated that dont even know they have AIDS. It is like the cancer situation here where doctors and family are only starting to realize the benefits of actually telling the patient that they are dying of cancer. TERRIBLE.

And Japan is going through a free love sexual revolution like what happened in America during the 60s. BUT THEY DIDNT HAVE AIDS THEN!!! There was also a tiny report in the corner of the paper stating that syphilis is starting to make a come back.

And yet every week there is another hostess bar opening and there are actually hostess only magazines that can be bought full of hostess bars advertising their wares. The yakuza are still making billions off the sex trade. Prostitution as we know it is officially illegal but when it is hidden behind the doors of a special pub the authorities stay away. Even after the USA put Japan on their really bad country list for sex slave-trafficking, Japan is only attacking the foreign visa appliers and not shutting down the places that are actually offering the trade.

My country is not perfect but at least there it is not considered a profession that one can talk about in public. Parents would have heart attacks and people do it as a last resort.
Here, well....... sad.....
