Sunday, September 12, 2004 Every once and a while you see people walking around here with big Dumbo the Elephant type ears. You know the kind - the ones that stick out. Well back home most parents have this tiny deformity fixed before the kids get too old. Here never. All I can think about when I see them is the hell that they probably had on the play ground. The name callings and what not. I know it happens at home, so assumed it would also happen here. The subject came up with Li one day, dont know why, and when I told him about parents getting it fixed he looked at me absolutely horrified. WHY!?!?! So I explained the teasing and play ground hell but he still could not understand. Now here is an interesting culture note - take a look at a picture or statue of Buddha. Any picture or statue. There is a 99.9 percent chance that Buddha has big Dumbo the Elephant type ears. Well children born with these ears are considered blessed by Buddha in a very religious family, but in general tend to be thought of as a little smarter and more attentive then other children. At home children think these kids are dumb. Interesting isn't it? -------- So I had a really nice weekend. On Saturday I taught a very positive feeling private class to my girl. She was a star and I think went away feeling like one, which is even better. I got the parents to separate the brother and sister into two 30 minute classes. The brother is older and much farther along and she was feeling left behind and not improving. Great class. We had our usual family lunch after. Their mother always cooks soooooo much, it is great. Then I went for a very relaxing, totally rejuvenating, facial massage. Ahhhhhhhhh....... And then I went to the nail salon and got my nails done. All that time Li was at work and I just moseyed around. Ahhhhh... That night we went out for dinner and then to the pub. Everyone was there, even Jean, and we had a great, but short, night talking away. Nice. Ohh Janet if you are reading this, Taka called you on the girl thing, so I tried to cover for you. Hehehe Yes Meito is a boy. He is not quite 4 months yet and already 8kg. Taka is a very proud daddy. Then on Sunday I had a bit of a sleep-in and then headed out to Shizuoka city all by myself. Felt great. The weather was beautiful and I just strolled around with no real plan. Headed to Starbucks for a strawberry cream frapachino and saw the adorable pony that was in the center helping to recruit kids for the little non Pony Club pony club that they have out Hamoka way. So cute. Nice looking pony. The best was Tomboya. Now most of you have no idea what I am talking about but it is a store that has lots of nice stuff in it, basically all imported from China and India. Now the clothes are those really nice relaxing in hot weather clothes and they are all SOOOOOOO expensive. Usually I go in there and drool, window shop and dream. This time I went in and they were having an amazing sale on shirts and dresses. Now none of these shirts I can wear now but by spring next year it will be no problem. I picked out 3 of the cutest, oh sooo me, shirts and the most beautiful and sexy dress, all for 60 bucks. They are hanging in the closet waiting for next year. Hmmmmm. Then to make the day the best, I had timed my Sunday perfectly for the downtown Shrines flea market. They have GREAT stuff. I picked out the most beautiful real black yukata (summer kimono) with the most beautiful design on the bottom for ten bucks. Looks great on Li. I also found this gorgeous royal blue yukata jacket. I bartered the guy down to 5 bucks. Both need an obi (belt) but there are a few places around here that I know of where I can pick one up just as cheap. The black yukata is NICE! So I have one now, but it has some water spots that I am praying the dry cleaners can fix, and Li has one now. We are set for festival season. Like we would ever actually wear them. Festival season is so damn hot shorts and a tank are much more appropriate. Hehehe
