Tuesday, January 27, 2004 Haven't written for a few days. The idea of sitting in front of the computer has not thrilled me too much. My eyes hurt due to an ongoing cold headache. UGH. That and the very thought of pulling myself out from under my kotatsu table the last few days has not entered my mind. Yes I am sick and it really really really sucks! I am not a good sick person, mostly because it pisses me off. Being sick costs a ton of money - the doctor bill, the medicine bill and the miss work no pay bill. Ohh lunch time. I'll write more in a tad __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Ok back. I started getting sick on Saturday. By Saturday evening it felt like my chest was on fire. A little annoying as I had been very careful these past few weeks - bundling up well, sleeping reasonably well, and taking my vitamins and an orange everyday. DAMN! I got sick. I felt like I had been rolled over by a steam train by bed time. Needless to say I decided that if it persisted to that extreme when I woke up on Monday I wasn't going to work but to a doctor. Ohh it definitely persisted. I slept as long as I could on Monday morning after phoning my boss and then emailing my English class contact person. Li brought me to the doctors that afternoon. After a ridiculously long wait I finally saw him. This doc speaks English, that's why I go to him. He did all the lung check over stuff and was a bit worried about the fire in the lungs part. He gave me a very long list of drugs to buy and a hand written note telling me to get my ass back to the doctors if I still felt sick after. Damn but doctors in Japan prescribe one hell of a lot of drugs, especially if you have insurance. Li questioned the prescription lady at the drugstore about why there were so many. She just shrugged and said that is what the doctor wanted. Li is an anti-pills person. I am now taking 5 pills three times as day as well as this disgusting tasting liquid medicine three times a day. YUCK!!! I feel like a drug pusher. Problem is that the fire is gone but I am coughing ten times worse and am having trouble sleeping at night because of it. One thing that is kind of neat though, if you come to Japan to will notice a lot of drug stores. There is a pharmacy beside every single doctors office, literally. They are small and only have about two or three people working in them but they contain everything needed. Makes it much easier. Isn't it Murphy's Law though that as soon as you start your new years resolution you always find a way to screw it up?! Well mine was to do a little bit more me and my health time and I have been going to the gym (twice hehehe) but it felt great. Then WHAM and the schedule that I had sworn to went in the gutter because I got sick. Getting back on that schedule is going to be such a chore because I procrastinate soooo much about exercise. Ugh As another note I do my visa again on Friday. hehehhe
