Tuesday, September 30, 2003 We were off early the next morning with Cheri. We headed out to Sheridan Lake and Cheri’s family cabin. We didn’t exactly speed. It took us at least 4 hours to get there. I was in tourist mode. We stopped for fruit and stopped at a gift shop on the way. Lovely drive that Li of course slept through. We had lunch at the Sheridan pub before heading off to the cabin. We saw some deer on the way. We had two wonderful days at the cabin doing nothing at all. It was great. We played some games and Li taught us a card game that had Cheri and I walking away with headaches. I do think that I started to get the gist of it by the end. We went for a walk and Li and I went for a paddleboat ride. The first evening, while Cheri and I were reading, two beautiful deer jumped the fence and were grazing on the lawn. I took a ton of pictures as quietly as possible. Just before we left to go to Salmon Arm there was a squirrel in the bird feeder and Li took a bunch of pictures of it. We drove to Salmon Arm on Thursday morning. We went along Highway 24. I had never been that route before. Over Little Fort and that bloody long hill. We drove through Barrier and were absolutely SHOCKED at the devastation of the forest fires. Cheri and I were stunned. I never imagined what I saw. The news papers never prepared me for that. We also drove through Kamloops and the fire devastation is a major eye opener. I can not imagine what those people were feeling. So sad. Just terrible. Salmon Arm is where Cheri’s parents live. I have never been there before. What a lovely town. We had an awesome dinner. Beer Chicken. I love beer chicken!!!!! Cheri’s mom gave me some real home made pickles that I have been very good about and eating them slowly. A lovely relaxing evening, chatting away and eating well.
