Tuesday, June 10, 2003 This is going to be a really long blog. I haven’t written for a few days because I have been EXTREMELY busy. I am going to break it into sections as best as I can for ya. As most are aware, Janet had been staying with me for the past week while she had been homeless just before returning to the homeland. She had been in Japan for five years when she finally decided her time had come to an end. Next adventure. I wish her the best of luck. This blog is an account of the last few days of Janet parties here in Japan. Friday June 6 After a long day at work having to recover slightly from the margaritas drunk the night before I put on another skirt, all girly like, and headed out to Skin Flute for Taka’s little get together for Janet. Not overly special just a few Japanese and Foreign friends joined for a drink and lots of gabbing till the wee hours in the morning. Dan’s overly smart girlfriend, Kyouko, thought of a perfect gift of a Janet book to be passed around and signed. Lots of pictures were taken and we all basically had quite a good time. I went home with Li at around 3ish in the morning. Janet, Dan, and Kyouko went kereoke singing till sun up. The crazy people. Saturday June 7 After a very long ass sleep in by all of us we awoke and slowly started moving around. Actually I started that first with telephone calls most of the day to mom and dad. I basically talked on the phone all day. At 7ish Janet, Li, Gu and I headed over in a taxi to Kelly’s for his big good bye Janet bash. Now I might add that this was a costume bash. There were quite a few of us who complied. Kelly wanted everyone to dress up in something Japanesish. Well Janet wore her festival jacket with the thing tied in her hair and looked very cute. Li and Gu refused to be involved. Now most of you have seen an email of crazy me. I got myself this LONG blond wig from the crazy store down the road. I was wearing my bright red yukata (summer kimono), 70’s makeup (blue eyeliner, purple eye shadow with each eye a different colour, and purple lipstick) I was also wearing my wicked witch of the west striped long ass socks and heels. I definitely looked a sight. Please note back above – we went in a taxi. The taxi showed up, we got in, told him where to go and he never spoke a single word. He was probably TERRIFIED. hehehe Anyway, the party worked out GREAT. There were tons of people. The Janet book was signed by all and lots of people dressed up. Robert came as a Mafia looking Elvis, his girlfriend as a sheep. Kelly was a crazy Japanese lady driving a car with her visor hat on. JP was the Kinki bar and Marjorie was a sluty and very gorgeous sexy Geisha girl. Most people wore their festival jackets or yukatas. It was great. People talking and BSing drinking and singing. There were people from almost every nationality. We had a great time. Kelly pulled us all into the main room for a New Zealand toast – the ‘Drink More Piss’ song turned up loud, all of us singing and raising our glasses. Then Janet and Jamie (he is leaving next week) gave little short speeches. YAAAA YAYAYA YAAAAAA YAYAYAYAAAAAA YAYAYAYA…… After this we moved to the Peruvian dance bar a few feet down the road. I removed my wig because it was way too hot and Owen (spelt wrong and pronounced ‘own’) grabbed it up and proceeded to do a perfect impersonation of Fabio. It was actually too perfect. He had the moves down and everything. The entire bar stopped moving to look at him. hehehe Then this bald man stole the wig and was having a great time dancing with it. I have no idea where the wig ended up last. I didn’t go home with it. Li had to work at 9 in the morning. He was having a great time dancing and drinking and talking away. I tried to get him to take a cab home at 3 ish and he refused to leave without me. AUGH! I was still dancing although I will admit that my feet were starting to hurt. At 4ish when he was passed out on the sofa wrapped around me I finally said to hell with it I am going home and we split a cab with some friends. Had a wonderful evening. Sunday June 8 I had to literally drag Li out of bed. I pushed him into a sitting position and then picked him up from behind to make him stand up. Turned on the shower and stuck him in there. Poor guy was pretty groggy at work. Good thing his day job is only placing food on the large tables and no cooking. A group of us slept in then we all headed to the City hall concert place for an AMAZING WONDERFUL BLOODY FANTASTIC Japanese drums concert. You know the GIANT drums. IT was sooooooo coooooollll!!! I loved every second of it. And it was free!!! I took tons of pictures and I am sooooooo pissssseeeddd!!! Not a single one turned out. My battery was almost dead and the film overlapped and had the worst colour. Kim took some pics so I will have to check to see if hers turned out. Gotta get some copies. It was soooo good. Then I went home and vegetated. I was very tired. Monday June 9 Janet, Jean and I went to Tokyo. It is kind of hard to explain this day. If I had a picture section I would just have you look there. Basically we went to a bunch of tourist spots - This giant Shinto temple. Saw the giant Asahi beer sculpture on the top of their headquarters. It is called a golden flame but it really looks like golden shit. I got my fortune and it was good. I have to find it though. I can not remember where I put it. The fortune paper I mean. We had a classic side café lunch and an excellent Indian dinner. We sailed on the river cruise thing and did print club sticky pictures. Jean headed back to Fujeda after dinner and Janet and I headed to our hotel. We gabbed and farted like girls are supposed to till the wee hours of the morning. Janet never slept. She packed and repacked her suitcase a zillion times. Her nerves were taking over. Tuesday Today June 10 We got up and headed back to the Tokyo station. Had an ok breakfast and sent Janet off to the airport. We never cried and we are proud of our selves for that. I did a little later but our good bye had been so drawn out that there were no problems. During Janet’s sleepless night she had written me direction for some different bookstores. The one near Toyko station I went to first and grabbed some mystery cop books. No Chinese books though. The guy there gave me some directions as to where I could find Chinese books. Janet also told me that Heather always went to Kanada station to hit the used bookstores. Heather!! I could not find any!!! I did find Starbucks and had a Chi Tea though. I followed the book store mans directions to another station (Tokyo has hundreds and different subway lines - it is crazy). Got out and found a wonderful taxi driver who was able to find the area where the bookstore was. Turned out to be bookstore street. After entering two different ones I found the Chinese only bookstore. I ordered some books for Li after he talked to them on the cell phone. I didn’t know what he wanted. They also have a web site which Li started cruising after I emailed him the site on my cell. I was very impressed with myself for finding everything with out getting lost even once. I was also EXTREMLY tired and headed back home on the bullet train. When I got home Li was still checking out the web page but he quickly dove into the Chinese newspapers that I bought him. This was after telling me, before I had even finished closing the door, that he had forgot to put the garbage out. AUGH!!! This is after being reminded twice before I left and twice on the phone from Tokyo!!!! AUGH!!! Oh well the house itself was actually not very dirty so I couldn’t complain too much. Today I got all my films developed and have been working on my photo albums. Almost done. I don’t want to put the Tokyo pics in until I talk to Kim about the concert pics. Then I ate dinner with Li started watching Lord of the Rings 2 for the umpteenth time (still rocks) and started writing this. Li is a work. My fingers hurt and I am really tired and feel a coat of Tokyo grim on my body. Need to shower.
