Saturday, August 27, 2005 Mom's last day in Japan Got our fingernails all prettied up this morning. Mom’s are a lovely pink colour with some sparkles added. After we packed ourselves up and headed to Shizuoka City. With the help of Abby and Mom, we have been able to convince Li to attempt the Level 2 Japanese Proficiency test this December. We headed straight to the book store to buy the test package and a few study books for Li. He has never done a Japanese test yet so he has to study their odd little fill in boxes and crap. Then it was wandering around town and shopping. Mom was great and only bought one thing. Li and I on the other hand, spent too much. I found myself a nice pair of Puma running shoes that are great for every day. They will come into good use. JiXiang was a doll and made us all proud. We bought her some ‘Gerber Baby’, slightly expensive baby food yesterday and she inhaled it. She was well fed, so was a great kid. We then hurried home much later than originally planned and they packed. Li of course had to hem FOUR pairs of pants that have needed hemming for MONTHS now. Grrr…. Li is the trained sewing dude. I cant sew worth squat. He actually asked me to help him get it done. - Fine but not a single word of complaining about my uneven stitches or I stop. No complaining and the stitches were uneven. But it was done and things are more or less ready to go. They are off to Shanghai tomorrow afternoon for 7 days of exploring and shopping fun. There was one incident today that is worth noting. In the Shizuoka train station there were cops EVERYWHERE, and on the second floor just outside of the Bullet train turn styles there were TONS of people all lined up waiting for something. In this case a someone. We joined the throngs of people for a while. I was really hoping it would be the Emperor or one of the princes but we were waiting and waiting. No one came. Finally Li asked this lady who the hell we were all waiting for. The lady told him it was the Prime Minister, Koizumi-san. I immediately went (quite loudly I am afraid), - I don’t want to see bloody KOIUZUMI! Lets go. This one lady nearby turned towards me and just started laughing. I am not waiting in a crowd of people for that dude. I don’t know if it really was him and I have no idea why the hell he would even want to come to Shizuoka in the first place. There was nothing special going on at all. So I really need to go to bed
