Sunday, August 21, 2005 Back to work today It is almost welcomed. I have had a great week with mom. We were very lucky with the weather (all this week it is going to rain) and we did some amazing things, but I am tired. Yesterday we went for a sushi lunch with my friend Abby. Abby then convinced us to go to kereoke after. I hate kereoke and by early yesterday had reached a point where I no longer wanted to make a single decision. I had been making all the decisions all week and just wanted to do nothing. They wanted kereoke and I followed. I can not sing at all. Way back a hundred years or so ago, I was around 11ish so my brother was 8ish, my mother brought us to singing lessons at the church in town. We would do our do-re-mees and practice, but we both hated it. We were finally able to convince mom to let us quite before the concert recital. There was no way in hell I was going to stand on a stage and sing in my completely off key voice. Well I still can not sing and tend to turn into an evil devil if someone puts a microphone up to my mouth. I have no qualms belting out the tuns in a kereoke parlor but with no mic thank you! In Japan the kereoke parlors are different, they are private box rooms. You get a TV, tables, sofas and books. You can also grab some noise makers to try to create a band. You can beebop away making a total food of yourself in front of your friends. Some people are known to spend their entire Sundays there. They bring a back pack full of food and drinks, settle in and sing away. One of Li's work guys goes all by himself almost every night to sing away before going home to bed. Mom had a blast singing all her 80s stuff with Abby, who can sing. Li then had to dazzle us with his voice singing Chinese. He can sing very well. JiXiang thought that her daddy singing was very cool but that the rest of us were very funny. We finally cooned her to sleep and she had a bit of a nap in my arms. After we met up with Abby and Kelly and went to Kouru's house for a BBQ. We kept having to pop in and out of the house due to the occasional rain burst. I was too tired to really enjoy myself but I know that Mom did. Got home last night and typically Li and Mom were passed out snoring long before I had finished getting everything ready for today. Being a mom is a 24 hour job whether you like it or not. This morning I awake to a HUGE puddle of water around my TV - stereo cabinet. It POURED last night and the rain crept in from some where. I am panicking that everything is now dead. The cables were wet and the wall was a little damp. Mom is home today with instructions to not attempt to turn on the TV or stereo just in case it explodes. She is picking JiXiang up from daycare around 1ish and then they will have the afternoon together. JiXiang was very happy to see all her friends this morning and her eye looks ten zillion times better.
